It’s a colorful week.

It’s been another jammed packed few weeks of painting and I’m loving every minute! I managed a huge load of vintage finds and I think I have 5 or so of the 20 left. I might try to backtrack on a few of projects to show some of the different designs but until then here is some of what I finished this week so far. This dresser is painted in Apron Strings from Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint. I love this color, it reminds me of watercolors when I paint. It a rich blend of orange and pink tones. I didn’t sand or prep this piece at all. When I paint for the store or myself I’m usually ok with risking the unpredictable chippy goodness that can happen with no prep. The wood was already a little roughed up and porous, so I knew the paint would adhere at least a little without help of a bonding agent or shellac. I painted two coats of the paint, sanded with 400 and 150 grit to create a very aged patina, and sealed with clear wax. I chose wax over the High Performance Top Coat by General Finishes because I wanted a more rustic finish. My original thought was to do just one coat of paint, and sand back just to make it look like a watercolor wash. In the end I wanted richer color and variation in the depth of the tones. I staged her up with some hand made arrows. I’ve been crazy about arrows lately. So much, that I have a few projects in my back pocket that I’m saving for the right piece.

I also finished up this adorable lowboy princess dresser. As I was carrying it from my studio to get some photos I passed by my family room and thought of how cute it would be as a coffee table! It has the original locking key, and I could put all my kids art supplies inside. Of course I can’t keep everything I want though. 🙁 I try, but I have to say goodbye to some (at least that’s what Mike says). So I promised myself if it doesn’t sell fast I’m bringing it back home. I used Bliss from Country Chic Paint, this color is perfect. Its rich and eye catching without being to much.

  1. Hi amanda,

I love this pink piece. Do you still have it available? I am interested in purchasing it and was wondering if it is for sale, price etc…?

    Thank you!
